They’re saying the announcement may be around Nov 5th and would bankrupt many 5g companies. Is this a possibility or a lot of hype?

Any “deadline” in the next couple years is hype. Satellite internet is coming, gradually, with several constellations being built and SpaceX on the early lead, but it’s likely coming slowly and there’s almost no chance it will be led by Apple.
Thanks for the reply Travis, this pitch made this move an imminent deal Apple was ready to go with, Thanks again.

Why so sure of this? Apple has surprises us all before? It seems satellite technology has been developing for quite some time, and all technologies are rolling out at unbelievable speeds.
I think Travis’ response requires more of a thinkolater famed thoroughness.
Sure, they surprise us. But not by spending billions of dollars building satellite constellations overnight.
I’m a bit jaded because Blanco has been pitching this story for several years about cheap satellite internet being just days away from launch, first about OneWeb (now bankrupt), then about SpaceX’s constellation, now about Apple.
LEO satellite telecom has the potential to offer a connection that’s pretty close to 4G in terms of latency, but not nearly as fast as the best 5G. LEO will provide some backhaul and improved coverage to rural areas or other places that aren’t currently able to get fast connections (ships at sea, etc.), but everything I hear now is about this providing access via a local “hotspot” type network… it will be integrated with 5G, most likely, not a “buy this instead” service… and it’s going to take a while. Maybe that’s now how it will happen, but that’s my current understanding.
And it’s safe to say that these marketing pitches are exaggerating the near-term potential… that is always true.
