Auto charge stations

what manufacturers of auto charging stations are most likely to benefit from the coming electric automotive revolution?

There are plenty of startups trying to take this market at the moment, but it’s a terrible business so far — huge infrastructure spending required, very low revenue opportunity in the near future. I suspect we’ll need to see a heavy hand from the government to create standards and incentives for charging stations, and I suspect that most of the companies being touted today will fail because they’re all being talked up with the Tesla connection and nobody has been able to generate a halo for that unprofitable and expensive part of the business like Elon Musk so far, but hope springs eternal.
EV charging is certainly ripe for disruption, so hopefully one of the hopefuls will really break through. I’m just a little skeptical at this point. And to be clear, I’ve largely been skeptical of Tesla, too, so perhaps I just have a blind spot in this area.
Hi, I had a long term kinda thought in regards to convenience stores. If EV does make a push and gets adoption, a big “if” to me. Would that change the model for these stores? My thought is most of the gas stations (not in the city, but the spaces in between) are like smaller places to fillup grab a snack and hit the road. Maybe bigger ones have a McDonalds or something.
Well one of the problems with EV is charge time. Probably will take 1/2 to 1 hour to charge vice 2 minutes using gas. How will this impact this model? What will people do for that time? Seems pretty disruptive to me. I was a electrical engineer in another life, charging a battery is a tricky thing, at least the way they are constructed now.
Maybe instead of looking at EVs, maybe a “pick and shovel” approach is better. How the hell will they get all that power required to these places???? Probably each charger will require 200amp 220VAC service X 20 charging stations at least. That is a lot of power. In fact maybe not feasible for the in between places.
That’s why I am slow to dismiss the old combustion engine so quickly. Other than nuclear pound for pound it has more energy storage than anything else we have currently. Curious as to why hydrogen cells and NGAS don’t get more play NGAS makes the most sense. Low emissions, good power conversion. We have TONS of it. Damn if I did not miss a good entry point into some oil plays. Now I’ll have to wait it out, but long term oil/gas could be good, in the same way cigarette companies did great after they were hammered in the 90s.
Just some thoughts to ponder I guess.
