New to all this

By franchise34, November 16, 2020

Hello everyone. Not sure where to start. I’m a formal sports bettor. Loved the action. Now I’m a little bit older and want to be more hands on with my money. I have been buying stocks for a month now. Have watched a bunch of videos of what a couple people have suggested. I can see myself getting into options trading a ways down the road. But for now just have been buying and selling what I’ve been recommended. Up 7%.
So now I’ve found this site. Reminds me a lot of the SBR Forum for sports gambling. Thought I’d give it a try. Is there good back and forth here? I like the ability to have different opinions of many people. Is this a good place for that??
Does anyone have thoughts or recommendations on what to look forward to here? So many guys out there trying to sell the “next big thing”. Who do you recommend to follow. I don’t want to blindly follow anyone. But with so much out there I’d like to zone in a little more.
Please any suggestions and advice would greatly be appreciated.

JOHN

I can’t offer much of a suggestion for “action” — it’s tempting, for sure, and I do some short-term trading and options speculation in my Real Money Portfolio, but I’m primarily focused on building long-term equity positions in companies that I hope to own for a long time, in many cases for decades.

We do have a good amount of back and forth on some topics in our discussion sections following a lot of the articles, but you won’t find it to be like a “trading room” — you’re welcome to post as much as you want to and try to build a cadre of Gumshoe readers who might want to discuss specific ideas, that does sometimes work well and we have seen some of those built into big threads, but it’s very fluid.
