I did very well with SPAC $GMHI, got a large position early. It has finally converted to $LAZR, and it is off to the races.

Thanks for sharing… yes, each one of these is a little different, but buying a SPAC before the warrant splits off, at near the likely redemption price (typically between $10-10.25), is a very low-risk way to park some cash, made somewhat more prospective if you pick a SPAC whose manager you trust (or who has created successful SPAC-merged companies before). Institutions and hedge funds often do this as a kind of arbitrage, buying in or getting an IPO allocation and then either selling off the SPAC shares if they show a little life later on or, if there is a deal or an extension, redeeming the shares and getting their original investment back that way, often with a small return and occasionally a big return if the story ignotes… and keeping the “free” warrants. If you don’t pay much more than the redemption price, the downside is extremely limited.

That’s different from speculating on the higher-profile SPACs that have a known deal, like what became LAZR, of course, that’s more of a “pick the hot story” trade that has been super popular this year… that’s much higher risk, higher reward.
