I follow a few contrarian and commodity letters and agree that the prices on all Russian companies are low, and that many of them are actually very good companies with “bargain” valuations. In the telecom space, look at the numbers on MBT, or in natural gas Gazprom.
But in addition to the political and military uncertainties, there is one factor I cannot live with…namely, that the government is criminal and cannot be trusted. In Russia you have to play along with the thugs or you get hurt. So I think the system is unavoidably corrupt. (though I suppose that some might say the same about the US). I’ve dabbled in a few Russian stocks and ETFS but I have decided that I sleep better if I avoid the sector.

Commodities may take a while to rebound but that is the only real bad negative on
Altius. I think their diversity and weight in some of the most unglamourous commodities is a factor in their poor valuation. But I agree that as a long term inveestment it is worthwhile. Long Altius.

Talk about lack of investor interest !
The only thing that looks more out of favor is the
    agriculture space…
