Stutman’s “New 5G technology will soon be available to every American household” Pitch

Technology & Opportunity says we're about to see the death of broadband cable, and that "The Clock Is Ticking For "America's Most Hated Company" ... what three stocks are they teasing?

Everyone hates their cable company and their wireless company. When we used to have home phones, we hated Ma Bell, too… everyone who has a monopoly or near-monopoly and uses that to keep prices and profits high and customer service low gets ranked pretty far up the “hate” list, whether its the airlines or the telecom utilities, and sometimes companies pop onto the list for a year or two for other reasons (Equifax or Facebook for data transgressions, The Weinstein Company for making us feel slimy just for hearing Harvey Weinstein’s name, the Trump Organization and Fox Entertainment for political reasons), but it’s traditionally the cable companies who sit in “most hated” position.

And today Jason Stutman says the “clock is ticking” for Comcast particularly, which often leads the “most hated” list — so why is that the case, and who will be the beneficiaries? Let’s check out the ad….

“Let’s face it: Cable companies suck.

“Everyone hates them. And it’s been that way for years…

“In 2012, Cox was one of the 15 most hated companies in the U.S.
“In 2014, Comcast was voted the “Worst Company in America.”
“In 2015, Time Warner received the lowest American customer satisfaction index (ACSI) score in history.

“And it’s no secret why…

“… 90% of Americans only have one option when it comes to receiving standard internet speeds.

“But a massive technological shift is coming…

“One that’s about to sound the death knell for some of America’s most hated companies.

“And this shift, the one that will replace 4G with 5G, could hand you the easiest guaranteed payouts that you’ll ever receive.”

OK, so this is a 5G story — probably one of many we’ll see over the next two years as the next generation of wireless begins to get rolled out to cities across the US. How is it that Jason Stutman thinks we’ll be making money from this transition?

Here’s how he puts it:

“4G is what most of us use today.

“It has a theoretical download speed of 100 megabits per second (Mbps.), which is pretty fast.

“But it won’t be able to hold a candle to 5G.

“5G will be able to handle 10,000 Mbps., which is 100 times faster than 4G on its best day.

“It’s why many in the industry, including me, refer to it as the ‘ultranet.’

“And it’s coming this year.

“And that means, if you position yourself properly, you’ll be in line to earn an unending series of guaranteed payouts and potentially pull in gains of 300%, 500%, and even upward of 1,500%.”

He talks for a bit about the huge profits that might have been made if you had invested in critical stocks before past “generations” in mobile telephony — from the big moves by Motorola and AT&T in the late 1980s and early 90s with “1G” phones, to Sprint and Ericcson’s moves a few years later with 2G or Qualcomm and Broadcom with 3G starting almost ten years ago, or the 4G moves close behind that as those stocks and the tower companies started go benefit from ever more adoption, more antennae and towers, more chips and more data.

More from the ad:

“And today is no different, except that it’s much, much bigger than anything we’ve seen before.

Are you getting our free Daily Update

“Because this time around, it won’t be just phones…

“Tens of billions of devices will rely on 5G to function.

“It’s 100% essential to the future of tech. And there are three major industries that will be driving 5G stocks to dizzying heights…”

As you might guess, those three “major industries” are the Internet of Things, which will depend on 5G to grow faster and allow massive amounts of processing of data from tiny and relatively “dumb” sensors and machines; Self-driving cars, which will likely have to do much of their processing and communication with other cars in a 5G-enabled wireless “cloud”; and Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, which relies even more heavily on fast speeds and massive data transfers than video (which, if you remember, used to be almost impossible to “stream” as recently as 3G or even early 4G).

So that’s the backdrop… what are the stocks? There are apparently three of them that Stutman is betting on, here are some hints:

“5G Stock No. 1: Guaranteed Profits From the ‘Death of Comcast’

“In a few months, we’ll see 5G being deployed in California’s capital — Sacramento.

“It will be the first city with widespread 5G support in what Maria MacGunigal, Sacramento’s chief information officer (CIO), calls a ‘game-changer’ ….

“There are 10 other cities that have been chosen to quickly follow Sacramento as 5G pioneers.

“And the best part is, the first company that I’m sharing with you today is in charge of EVERY one of these installations.

“In fact, this company just dropped $1.05 billion to ‘reinvent’ its own network ahead of the 5G bonanza that will begin later this year.”

Thinkolator sez: This is another of the country’s most-hated stocks, Verizon (VZ), which is indeed rolling out 5G household broadband in Sacramento and, shortly thereafter, ten other cities.

The $1.05 billion is a reference to their deal with Corning last year to buy a lot more fiber-optic cable over the next couple years, which they need both for their FiOS network and to provide a more robust physical network to support 5G. The promise is that their 5G implementation will be able to deliver fiber-like speeds wirelessly, though I guess we’ll see how the real world application goes.

And Verizon, of course, is huge… the market cap is close to $200 billion (with another $120 billion in debt), so it’s not a particularly secret or unknown company — which is probably good, because the rollout of 5G will be extraordinarily expensive as Verizon and AT&T and everyone else tries to be early and take market share for next generation wireless services as the national standards get finalized.

The stock is right around the midrange where it has traded over the past five years, in the high $40s, and it tends to act a lot like a utility much of the time, but it is certainly likely to be one of the leaders of 5G, even if that means it will probably need to put even more debt on the balance sheet in the years to come. And it does pay a strong dividend (nearly 5% right now). I would expect the service providers and chipmakers and equipment companies to have more direct exposure to 5G over the next couple years, but Verizon is also probably a rational lower-volatility choice, particularly for income investors — and it’s much closer to being a “pure play” on wireless than its major US competitor, AT&T (T), which also owns the cable competitor DirecTV and, thanks to their court victory this week, will soon own the huge studio and content creation colossus Time Warner.

What’s next? This one sounds a bit smaller…

“5G Stock No. 2: The $3 Company Redefining Wireless

“The second company that I’d like to share with you already has some of the biggest telecom companies in the world — like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile — clamoring for its wireless products.

“It’s even inked a deal with the U.S. Army.

“On top of that, it’s already secured $100 million worth of orders from first-tier Indian telecom operators.”

OK, color me intrigued… any other clues?

He says this is “the No. 1 5G wireless backhaul specialist.”

And that…

“It’s been in business for more than 20 years and has a long track record of being involved in huge technological advances.

“In all, the company has more than 2,000 customers already. And it’s deployed more than 1 million systems since it started operation in 1996.”

So… hoodat? Thinkolator sez: Ceragon Networks (CRNT)

Which I have never heard of, so I can at least say I learned something new today. Ceragon is indeed small, with a market cap around $380 million at the current $3.80 share price. And they’re profitable, with a trailing PE of about 17 — analysts don’t forecast any earnigns growth this year, so the forward PE is also 17, but they do see 2019 earnings popping up by about 20%, so that’s a good sign… though there are only two analysts covering this little guy, and the stock is right at their target price (one rates it a hold, the other “outperform”), so the analyst coverage probably doesn’t mean much at the moment.

This is how Ceragon describes itself:

“Ceragon Networks is the #1 wireless backhaul specialist. We help operators and other service providers worldwide increase operational efficiency and enhance end customers’ quality of experience with innovative wireless backhaul solutions.”

They do have an investor presentation which you can see here, so that’s a good place to start for the shiny happy version of the company’s strategy and performance. They do have an impressive roster of clients, many of the big telecom companies around the world, including that big chunk of business in India as well as pretty strong sales into Sprint and AT&T and others in the US, and they do claim to be well-positioned to support 5G rollouts.

I don’t have any outside perspective on this one, but it’s an interesting story and they’ve been growing slowly for a while now, so it might be worth some time spent on research if you’re interested in a telecom services company. Presumably the 5G “story” or newsletter attention is helping the stock to surge recently, they had a strong quarterly report in early May that was clearly well-received and helped the stock up immediately, but it has also kept surging since then, rising another 30% in the past month. The stock has a history of being quite volatile, so this one’s probably not for the faint of heart — though they do have a good balance sheet, so they don’t appear to be in any fundamental danger.

One more? I thought you’d never ask!

“5G Stock No. 3: The Small Cell Kingpin Set to Go Parabolic….

“According to Wells Fargo Managing Director Jennifer Fritzsche: ‘While we saw some early carrier interest and activity building small cells… we believe 2018 to really be [the] year where small cells are pursued in earnest.’

“And one company has a stranglehold on the competition…

“This company already has a deal in place with an unnamed wireless operator to deploy over 500 small cell sites in two large metro areas.

“It’s all part of a multimillion-dollar deal that includes citing, placement, and installation.

“And that’s not the only project these guys are in on…

“Sprint Chief Technology Officer (CTO) John Saw noted that he’s ‘working aggressively’ with this company to upgrade Sprint’s network ahead of the massive 5G launches coming later this year.

“And Verizon is a top customer, as well.

“The company that I’m telling you about has several multiyear contracts with Verizon. And it’s on the brink of bringing in huge business from AT&T.”

This one is another stock I’ve never looked at before, Zayo (ZAYO), which is much larger and provides fiber optic infrastructure, including in support of the small cells that will be used by 5G (which requires lots more transmitters/antennae, each of which is smaller and closer together than conventional 4G/LTE wireless antennas).

And, as luck would have it, one of the “best of” newsletters, Cabot’s Wall Street’s Best Investments, featured ZAYO as a pick from Stutman’s newsletter last month, so you can see a bit more of his actual commentary here.

Zayo provides a lot of dedicated networks for other companies, mostly based on its large fiber optic installed base, and it’s a pretty big company (market cap near $8 billion), but it’s also in the middle of what is expected to be a fairly weak earnings year — they are dropping, analysts say, from 41 cents in earnings per share in 2017 to an estimated 31 cents this year, even with pretty substantial near-20% revenue growth… though the expectation is that growth comes back over the next couple years. So the forward PE on 2019 estimates is a pretty steep 85, but those earnings are expected to grow.

Why would you pay that much for this company? I guess you’d have to assume that they are going to grow the business more quickly than the analysts thing, perhaps because of that small cell rollout for 5G, or because 5G will make their fiber networks ever more valuable. That doesn’t appear to be the consensus at this point, and they have both huge depreciation charges and large capital expenditures that make the earnings look less impressive, but they do, at least, also generate a fair amount of cash — their free cash flow for the trailing year was 70 cents a share, far better than the 25 cents in earnings, so that’s at least one sign of some underlying cash-generating strength that might make the stock appealing despite the low earnings numbers.

Will these stocks make you rich in the next year? Probably not, but they are real companies with at least some growth, and they’re all profitable, which you can’t say about every “story” stock. There’s also a chance that the “5G story” will heat up, too, and drive a lot of the associated stocks higher — and these three companies are all, at least, honestly connected to the 5G rollout.

Have a favorite? Think they all stink? Other ideas in 5G that you think will do better? Let us know with a comment below… thanks for reading!

Actually a pretty interesting group of stocks and like 4G, it is safe to assume 5G will become the defacto standard in a few years. Not sure why the hate for Verizon. While I don’t like paying the cell bill, I have had very few problems with them over the years compared to other carriers.

Because you can get straight talk for $50 a month that uses Verizon towers. So u get the same exact service and signal. U just can’t physically go into their stores for help u have to make phone calls. Who caresthough

Right! I never complain about paying my $50 unlimited data bill, even though when a challenging task appears, I must figure out the resolution myself.

How about unlimited everything, 1 GB at 4G speeds, unlimited international text ans MMS, $23 a month? LYCAMOBILE. Customer service isn’t that great, and they use T-Mobile’s network.

But straightalk customer service is awful, amonf the worst of any provider. If you have any problems with straighttalk good luck actually reaching someone who speaks clear English and isn’t just reading from a script. If you need to take your phone in for issues where do you take it, Walmart? You get what you pay for. I’ve had straightalk and would never go back.

VZ. Personally, I own a full position that I recently started as their yield went up and for the further possibility of growth in the future related to 5G. Meanwhile, I am reinvesting the dividends as long as the 5G mania that will come will probably drive up the price as the newsletters hype the story next year.

Really? Gratuitous, snarky anti-Trump, anti-Fox comments? Disappointing and totally unnecessary, especially with the immediately preceding reference to Weinstein.

Gee, if only the Criminal Crone of Chappaqua Wood were here to guide our economy toward the Obamoid Utopia.

VERY disappointing.

My experience of most hated is due to service as for example cable companies, Time Warner etc. Monsanto isn’t about service but about industrial agriculture and the food we eat etc. This is the first time I’ve seen political insults appearing on this excellent service. That is to quote our current President Sad. I’m tempted to make a comment but to quote a word going around I’m advocating being ‘civil.’ no need to invent a snarky title for a person.

In full context, that comment was neither a judgment of Trump nor of FOX at all. It was a statement that those companies and the like often get added to many people’s “Most Hated Company” lists for non-business-related reasons.

I read Travis & this is 1st time I remember ANY politics mentioned. I, too, am sensitive to the massive negative energy directed @ “ALL THINGS TRUMP” & didn’t understand the necessity of referencing “TRUMP” in connection to 5G. As far as Verizon, I had a company/paid c/ph which was w/ Verizon who also showed me very good customer/serv, but when it came to continuing w/Verizon after I retired in Oct., the best pricing was $10 more than corp rate of $50/month & $60/month was Verizon’s best offer. Tho’ it took some research & I have to pay in advance, I’m @$15/month w/ free talk/text & 2MB included ( no free phones of course) vs Verizon’s $60. That is why these various “Communication Co’s” are the most hated. Why $15 vs $60??? Oh my, I forgot, it’s Trump’s fault…….Travis, I love you, but please, I don’t want to argue w/ you as I do w/ my 2 brothers……$$$$$ ONLY!!!……PLEASE!!!……

I didnt take offense to what Travis used as examples of Most Hated re: Anti-Trump or Anti-Fox. I can however see why someone could get upset. Heres the truth. The MSMs bash Trump & his supporters 24/7. Never positive. Only Neg., even when its positive outcomes. Theres a reason that MSMs do this. Theres a reason this nation is more divided now then it was pre-civil war . Just like the investment knowledge/advice we search for from financial analysts/SMEs, theres alot of citizens that educate thenselves about whats REALLY going on in our Fed Gov & politics. I suggest that.many do the same & do the same research on that & not just Stock/Investment advice. The whole reason many follow here on this blog is for Travis to decipher these teasers & dissect the legitimate opportunities from the bad ones. That very same search must be done for the current state of politics & whats really happening in U.S. & World. Im not going to say or divulge anything else but. theres a reason that things occur. Alot of False Narr’s & if you knew whats really going on by your own research, youd know the truth. BTW, Fox is not diff than any of the othet MSMs. May have a few Conserv. Journalists but is Murdoch owned & they get the same Agenda that all the others get @ 4 AM everyday from AP. To find the truth, you have to be open to it. What would you do if you found.out your personal Financial Advisor was a Fake. A phony? Was ripping you off for decades? What would you do? Prob. get another one, right. What if they were all on the take. Corrupted. Then what? Maybe do your own research? Love this investment blog. Travis is gifted @ what he does. Lets all get along despite whats happening elsewhere. Were better than that. Everyones welcome here right. Thanks & sorry for the novel. Peace.

There is another aspect of the upcoming 5G that isn’t even mentioned, that of LEOs, or Low Earth Orbiting satellites. There are two comapnies that are working on this, SpaceX and OneWeb. Although thier intial cost will be high, as thousands of satellites will be needed, they will provide coverage worldwide. Since 5G will be integral in autonomous vehicles, they will rely on LEOs when not in a densely populated area.
While I agree with Travis on investing in QCOM and SWKS, I would look into LEO providers at some later point in time as 5G techology develops.

As a former “cable” contractor back in it’s infancy, I, too, am enamored w/ LEO & logically think why “dig & string”……I continue to sniff @ anything “LEO”……makes more sense than “real estate”…….Maybe “real estate” represents the politically controlled “pipe” the powers in control want……..Local governments wouldn’t easily get their slice, nor would a low orbit umbrella be as easy to control & tax………My, sorry this is my 2nd political entry in this string………

Speaking strictly as a Canadian non paying reader of your writing and post Travis, I can say that looking in on US politics currently is very troubling. Your article did not have any overt bias…was very clear, and as always welcome clarity on other wise very un-intuitive topics. 98.9 % of Canadians think Trump is a Moron. That is not taking into account his twitter comments about our leader and his undermining historical G7 relationships, I would think most sensible North Americans would see this a a problem. Trumps manipulation of tariffs and market sectors can provide some fun investing if you can time these spontaneous disruptions. But over all #trumpisamoron will be his legacy and his supporters are really just polarizing them selves from the rest of their fellow citizens. The next series of elections will tell the tale of what the state of the USA will take. Just keep doing you I appreciate the literate commentary on stocks.

Obviously then, according to you, almost 99% of Canadians are incapable of independent thought processes. Thanks for confirming my long held belief that without the US taking care of you guys up north, you would probably freeze to death since you don’t have the common sense to come in from the cold.. And by the way, you folks really shouldn’t criticize the US President when you have that Trudeau fellow up there.

In order for you to insult me, I would first have to place some value on your opinion. Nice try though.

Most sensable Americans dispise him, & what he is doing to our allies & our country. This country was built ny immigrsnts, what he is doing at the southern border is deplorable, ripping children from thier patents, and not allowing people to ask for asylum. They’re trying to escape the horror of theor country, and we have always welcomed Immigrants. With his election the prople in tjis country the bigots, the confederate flag waving illerates, on welfare & food stamps, not because yheycan’t find a job, because they are so ignorant it’s pathetic.

I am really surprised your poorly spelled, biased, vitriolic, and p0litically motivated comment made it beyond moderation. Oh My! Wake up to a real rainbow, please stick to the subject matter, and maybe we can again respect each other as Dirksen and Vandenberg did.

A few typos mean nothing when the message conveyed is heartfelt and decent. And even if it wasn’t it would mean little between friends which you would know if you had any.

here is one more aspect of 5 G that is rarely mentioned, but it concerns your health, your life. We are biologically not made for 4 G, let alone for 5 G. The vibrations of the frequencies emanating from these transmitters cause our electrons and atoms to go into overdrive, shredding our living cells.
Harvard physicist Ronald Powell, PhD (emphnalysis/com, smartgridawareness.org) has been BEGGING the FCC Commissioners to withdraw 5 G. ehtrust.org. , July 9, 2016.
I highly recommend to the serious investigators to inform himself/herself of the adverse influences of our many outrageous, already applied technologies by reading the excellent , richly indexed book by Elana Freeland
“Under an Ionized Sky ” From Chemtrails to Space Fence Lockdown”. A very recent edition, it gives up to the minute information about these technologies and where humanity and all biological life on this planet will be going (very shortly). It is a sequel to “Chemtrails, HAARP, and the Full Spectrum Dominance of Planet Earth.” Available on Amazon and Feral House.

Thank you for that insight. It certainly something that needs to and should be studied. The evidence of increase tumors in mice is concerning though I’m not sure there is evidence that 4 and 5G is shredding our living cells. You definitely made me want to read more.

I remember talking w/ a “former” Motorola “engineer” back in ’88 who said, “Don’t buy a handheld cell/ph, stay w/ the bag phone due to the “waves” damaging the brain!!” Maybe that’s true & we’re all “drain/bamaged”???….

An acquaintance died of brain cancer a few years back; he conducted much of his business on his cell phone, prior to all warnings.

My advice? Only use your cell phone when it on speakerphone.

As someone who has had brain surgery (an aneurysm), I can assure you of my acute sensitivity to EMF’s…just from fluorescent lighting from the mid-1970’s. Of course, with all the investments made towards the 5G roll-out, no one will listen to research that has already started. The medical profession has been trained to carefully sidestep questions regarding EMF’s.
I purchased a TriField Meter to determine the source in 2017 because my symptoms were getting worse. My building was constructed in 1976, so it has original wiring; I discovered several hot spots in my house – the breaker panel is the worst, not to mention my automobile! Therefore, I’ve done much reading on this topic concerning EMF radiation. I wonder why the EU has different standards for cell phones than those in the USA; because they care more about health. In my mind, 5G is one of the world’s most vicious nightmares unfolding as we speak. Aside from the above, I have read 5G does not perform well in rainy weather; no wonder sunny CA will be the rollout state.

I bought several “antennas” to put in my families phone protective cases. At $20, I dont know if they work but I’ll risk the twenty to protect us and hope it works. You can buy it on Amazon or from the Manward Digest, a free-bee newsletter that I get occassionally. No, I have no business or personal relationship with that letter or the product.

After my experience in Bangkok with Smart Meters on major streets in high traffic areas, I’ve decided that I’m not to concern myself with idiotic people who cannot get past their greed and trust in higher fools. I will be so bold to say “mark my words, this will be a disaster”.
I will be shorting all the high rollers as soon as I see evidence that warrants putting my $$$ where my mouth is.

TMUS (T Mobile apparently is merging/buying Sprint (S) & both have large commitments to 5G). Nice upward arc after initial fall from merger announcement…….Likely to continue even more sharply upward…….

To all on this discussion string taking potshots at Travis for referring to comments made in an outside source, which were used simply as examples for what was presented in someone else’s article, please get over yourselves! Compared to the overwhelmingly blatant political spins that I see in so many investment newsletter teases, Travis is about as neutral and middle of the road as anyone in this business can get. Why don’t you people try sticking to what this string is all about, solid, candid, neutral and unbiased analysis and discussion on the various opportunities for investment, or not, of the companies presented in the select investment teases which Travis sees as worthy for discussion. Over the years, I have read countless teases, tons of investment information, some very good and some total crap, and done a lot of my own research. Over the last few years, I have found Stock Gumshoe to be one of my#1 favorite sources for information. Clear, unbiased, pro and con, and “you decide for yourself”, make Stock Gumshoe, and Travis, a little bit of a Switzerland in terms of investment advice. If that really is more than you political hardliners can handle, go watch Fox Business News instead!

– Well, yes, all perspectives have value, but I can’t bear the kind of venomous, spiteful, vitriolic comment that (unusually) is here in this thread. I don’t use any social media now except for a very small number of investment forums, of which this is one. If the sort of comment posted above were to become commonplace here I would cancel my subscription.

Right! I found IQ early on and jumped on it immediately – buying as much as I could afford. It’s helping hold up my portfolio since I stupidly shorted TSLA about the same time!
(I have so much to learn…and I cannot blame anything on my brain aneurysm, except my inability to use my left hand on the keyboard…and a few other physical issues.) IQ may be the 1st stock I hold forever…finally.

Shouldn’t the list of companies that will benefit from 5G implementation include NOKIA?
They switched focus from making cell phones to developing transmission technology, a while back, and it might be ready to pay off.

I hear American Tower will supply all of their towers for hardware placement for 5G. Also Bingo wireless (WIFI), EQIX, Crown Castle (CCI) and possibly SBAC.
It took 2 hours to look them up and I didn’t have to pay the 2950.00. If everyone gets rich from this info send some to Travis the best stock gums hoe out there. Thanks Travis for that you do.
