Roger Conrad’s Utility Forecaster is a good, solid publication. As I recall, it is not as expensive as Canadian Edge. It covers not just utilities, but MLP’s, some Canadian Royalty Trusts and US Trusts, etc.providing a “safety rating” and buy, hold, and sell recommendations.

It has a broad outlook. I also subscribe to Personaly Finance, and will let that one expire, while I continue with Utility Forecaster.

Have subscribed to UF for over one year and have found the recommendations reliable … and strangely enough, most of them have worked out! Certainly unusual in these markets.

UF does let you know where they stand on the securities in the industry. And also they are available to answer questions. I was very surprised to be connected to a top man when I called.

They do not bombard you with promotional material for their other publications (I did not know they had others) like my pet aggravating publisher – Agora.

I have suscribed for 10 years and found it to be very useful. As with any publication you must do your own research and decide what buy and sell prices to initiate.Saying that,i must say this is extremely thourough with it’s information and serves as a great research tool. I have made many great investments using the information contained within.

I have subscribed to UF for many years. While some of the mass mailings for new subscribers have that breathless over-the-top feel that we have come to expect from promotional pieces, the publication itself is not like that at all. Each monthly issue is lengthy and crammed with data, not just on the recommended lists (conservative and aggressive) but on every stock in the sector (and there are a lot of them; as the Gumshoe noted, he construes “utility” broadly). The depth of the information is very impressive. The big downer for an income investor is a dividend cut, but that rarely happens to a stock that is not already on his dividend watch list. Utilities are sort of boring and it’s more fun to speculate in biotechs but I have made far more money, consistently, with UF picks than any other newsletter. For someone approaching retirement it’s a no brainer. It’s also very cheap, an incredible value.

I have been a subscriber for over 15 years. In that time I have found UF to provide a enormous amt of info every month. The subscription rate gives you a fair return for your newsletter dollar. Unless there is a significant chg, I will remain a UF subscriber for many years to come.

Consistently, over 12 years I have followed “Utility Forecaster”
with more than satisfactory results. One could do quite well with only this letter; I have.

I have subscribed to this newsletter for several years and believe I have gotten several times my money’s worth. It is not very expensive, compared, for instance, to Canadian Edge, and Roger gives clear, conservative advice that nearly always proves to be correct. This is a newsletter aimed more toward buy-and-hold investors who will let the dividends and capital gains accumulate, and is not for those who want lots of quick trades. I am very pleased with this publication and will continue to renew. I also subscribe to Personal Finance, mostly for Roger’s income portfolio which features some of the same names as Utility Forecaster and Canadian Edge, but also others just as lucrative. I like Canadian Edge and have sampled it, but it is too expensive for someone who doesn’t have enough to invest to cover the cost.

I’ve had good overall results with UF, however will be examining other Dividend newsletters. Despite overall positive results – there have been some recent inconsistencies, leading me to feel he may be getting spread thin with his involvement in other newsletters. In addition “over the top” marketing of his other newsletters is extremely annoying – if I get another email re. the “Mexican Walmart” I’ll …..

I have only been subscribed to UF for 1 year. Using Rogers picks my portfolio is in better shape than it has been in years. He gives you a maximun buy price and that has worked out well. With the market seemingly getting long in the tooth stocks within the buy price are scarcer. I emailed them with a question and they got back to me with a very sastisfactory answer. With the stability I have had using UF’s reccomendations I don’t pay much attention to other news letters. Plan on being a subscriber for a few more years if the politicos don’t wipe us out first.

Conservative, dividend paying utilities, phone companies and pipelines. Tells you the maximum amount to pay for recommendations (i.e. this is a buy up to x). I’ve been able to sit back and wait for recommended stocks to fall below the “buy up to” price and then pounce. I’ve been a subscriber for 2 years. Well worth the money.

My investment approach is/was already in agreement with Mr Conrad’s, so when some of his recommendations matched stocks I already owned I was interested. He knows way more than I do about investments vehicles outside the norm, but he makes his case to buy or sell based on solid reasons.

In the past couple, three years I started a subscription with UF. During this time I have made an awful lot of money using some of the recommendations of this newsletter.

I am political conservative and it’s easy, way too easy nowadays, to let despair and anger color investment decisions; Mr Conrad keeps things focused on how to make money regardless of the knuckleheads in the DC or the various state capitals.

I won’t deny that I was fortunate to have begun using his recommendations within a year or so after the market bottomed out, so that is part of the reason for my selections doing so well. On the other hand, he was recommending buying solid companies when “everyone else” was panic selling. His advice to invest in (certain) Canadian companies has resulted in huge wins – I expanded on that advice to invest in a Canadian MF as well. Third, it’s clearly obvious he likes this and thinks it can be good for others as well. When lots of investment gurus (including Buffet) were saying that we will never see 10%+ returns ever again and we should all dial back our expectation, Mr Conrad shows how easy it is to invest in solid, stolid, boring even companies that make money quarter after quarter and return that money to the investors.

Note that not all his advice is great. His advice regarding certain Euro companies has not seen great results – certainly not the results I’m used to. To his credit, he continues to make the case if he believes (and holds); those unrealized investment decisions don’t just disappear.

I am a current subscriber and have been for about three years. I’ve been quite impressed overall with Conrad’s newsletter and have found it well worth the $, FWIW.

I have been a subscriber for more than 5 years. The quality of information is still good but not excellent as it was years ago. I attribute that to Roger’s involvement with an ever increasing multitude of other newsletters and advisory services, some offered at steep cost, and much too often advertised to present subscribers. It is somewhat confusing that some companies discussed at length and recommended as “buys” are thereafter not included in any of the portfolios. If we followed all his recommendations AND followed the portfolio, we’d have the equivalent of a mutual fund! But I still generally like his style and performance and will stick with it. Solid 4 stars.

I aam a new subscriber and have not formulated an opinion yet. To be frank, I don’t know if I am into the Utility Forcaster yet. Somehow I am finding it difficult to enter into/on the Forecaster net.

Have used Rogers service for 5 years. Straight honest analysis. Not perfect but well grounded in economics which I look for in any investment thesis. I did lose money on Yellow Media (Canadian Edge) recommendation of Rogers.
Ottelco, was another bad recommendation but overall his thinking is pretty well vetted. I have made his thoughts on the markets a must read each month.

I’ve been a subscriber for a little over a year. I never heard of Roger Conrad until my money paper subscription included utility forecaster. Many of Rogers picks are right in line with my own picks and preferences. I love the insights and explanations that go along with the decisions he makes, so far so good. He has more resources than I do so I’m with him until he proves unreliable. As I said so far so good. I’ll add more as we move along.

Utility forecaster is very reasonably priced, and recommends fairly conservative stocks and bonds suitable for long term investment.

Of the several market letters I have sampled over a long market involvement, this one brought me more profit than any other. Investment in utilities has been one of my mainstays, and probably, has been the most profitable. When Roger Conrad left as editor, I thought the letter’s value declined. I have recently decided to give it another try after several years a non-subscriber.
