This article was originally published on November 2, 2020, but the ad we’re covering has been updated with a new headline and some “Biden’s New Plan” lead-ins so we’re re-posting it here to help answer some reader questions — the meat of the ad, the “what you should do” part, seems largely unchanged, and what […]

There’s a new version of Stansberry Venture Value’s big “SaaS” pitch making the rounds recently, similar in many ways to the previous versions that I looked at last February and September… so I guess it’s time to take another look and see if the same stocks are still being teased, and whether we can answer […]
I’ve gotten a pile of new questions about Stansberry Venture Value this week, all relating to their pitch for some cloud SaaS stocks — and I found the first pitch about these stocks pretty compelling back in February, and even ended up buying two of them, so I thought it would be worth digging in […]
I’ve gotten a bunch of questions about the latest teasers for Stansberry Venture Value (“on sale” for $1,897/yr, no refunds), so I thought I’d dig into that a little bit today — they’re hinting at a couple cloud SaaS stocks to pique your interest… and, well, consider me piqued. The ad is not brand new, […]
Monthly service that suggests discounted corporate bonds.
This “tease” isn’t from a regular ad, it’s from a “free” article that Porter Stansberry posted earlier this week… but a couple readers asked about it, and I was curious myself, so I jumped in to check out the clues. Maybe it’s just that this ad hints at a non-sexy and rational-sounding investment at a […]
Today I’m looking for the first time at a teaser ad from Bill Shaw, who is the Senior Analyst for Stansberry’s precious metals service — that service is now called Stansberry Gold & Silver Investor, and it’s one of the “no refunds, get a portfolio all at once” services that Stansberry has been pushing lately. […]
Several folks have been writing in with questions about Stansberry’s “Dirty Thirty” promotion for his Big Trade newsletter ($3,000 for three years, no refunds), so that’s where we’re pointing the Thinkolator today. The pitch is not a new one — Porter Stansberry preannounced his “Dirty Thirty” idea last Fall and started selling subscriptions around November, […]
Lots of readers have been sending questions our way about Porter Stansberry’s new high-cost Stansberry Venture Value newsletter, which is his attempt to build a service that essentially recommends small cap value stocks for long-term compounding value. An admirable goal, and I guess we’ll start to learn in the coming year or two how it’s […]
High cost newsletter launched early in 2017, focused on identifying “10X” stocks that are small but have great capital efficiency and potential for very high long-term returns. Originally sold as part of a $7,999 lifetime package (plus $299/year renewal fee) with Dave Lashmet’s Stansberry Venture Technology, then was quiet for a while but was later […]
This is getting a little ridiculous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single mining stock as aggressively endorsed by investment newsletters as Northern Dynasty has been over the past few months. So this is just a short note to let you know that, yes, you can add another one to the pile — it’s […]
Lots of folks have been asking me about this latest “Magic Stock” that’s been hinted at by Porter Stansberry in his ads for Stansberry’s Investment Advisory… and I can see why. It sounds delightful — and most of the premise is based on the fact that these “magic” stocks that can grow profitably forever, with […]
Porter Stansberry’s 2016-launched push for gold, which he thinks could hit $10,000 — differently structured newsletter, with a $1,750 up front charge for the full portfolio report and then $49 a month for portfolio updates.
This is not a heavily hyped stock sent out in lots of ads — I should make that clear up front. But it’s a puzzle, and I like to solve puzzles… so I thought I’d sniff it out for you. The tease was part of a Stansberry letter that seems to have gone just to […]
[what follows was originally published in 2012 and 2013, it has not been updated (the pitch for the service remains similar, presumably the strategy does as well) but is being brought up to the top of the page because so many readers are asking about it this week.] It appears that Porter Stansberry is pushing […]
We’ve written some in these parts about the many, many predictions of a US dollar collapse and an associated economic and societal collapse — recent newsletter pitches that spin this “doom” story have come fast and furious from Porter Stansberry and several others, and they are a pretty popular stock in trade in the world […]
OK, so this one’s a bit tricky. And not just because the clues are a bit limited. Don’t worry, we’ll still find an answer for you … but a caveat or two first … Frank Curzio edits Phase 1 Investor, which is Stansberry’s “big ticket” newsletter that typically covers small tech, biotech and natural resources […]
Premium-priced options trading service, seems to be built on using “blue chip” stocks for the underlying investment idea and selling puts for income on those stocks while using some of that cash to buy calls for upside leverage.
Well, you probably know the drill by now — if there’s going to be a teaser pitch made for a $5,000 (or $3,000 “on sale”) newsletter, and if that pitch is going to be made by probably the largest marketer in the newsletter world, well, yours truly is going to be inundated with requests to […]
Porter Stansberry loves to take strong, vocal positions on controversial stocks, and some of those have worked out well. He also rubs a lot of people the wrong way, partly because of his abrasive libertarian screeds and his aggressive marketing campaigns and partly just because he comes across as brash and wealthy. I’ve met with […]
Over the last few days I’ve been getting a lot of questions from Gumshoe readers about the latest “World Dominator” pick from Dan Ferris over at Stansberry’s Extreme Value newsletter — they’ve apparently been hinting at it and teasing it to the subscribers of their other letters, and piquing the interest of my readers who […]
There was big news from one of my personal holdings this week, and it’s also a stock that I’ve suggested twice to the Irregulars and written about several times over the years so I thought it warranted at least a little reaction … particularly because it drove the shares down precipitously. So I’ve bought more […]
Don’t worry, we haven’t just been sitting around here at Gumshoe HQ, waiting for the Fifth Coming … in fact, although I may have an itchy “buy” finger to upgrade my own iPhone when this new one becomes available next week, I’ve spent the day looking into something completely different. Porter Stansberry has been blanketing […]
I generally don’t like to write about super-heavily-hyped microcap stocks for the whole Gumshoe readership, because we’re almost guaranteed to cause a spike in the price for that stock. So when I saw the latest teaser for the Phase 1 folks over at Stansberry, and those teasers always cause a huge flood of emails to […]
I LOVE this ad. Not just because it’s fun to read, full of hyperbole, and fills our head with dreams of huge investment returns — they all do that. No, I love it because it’s great to see the big newsletter publishers answering each others’ challenges — you’ve certainly seen and heard Porter Stansberry’s “End […]
This story has been making the rounds for quite a while — and in different versions, I’ve written about essentially this same pitch before … but it’s been years since it really hit the Gumshoe radar, and folks keep asking, so I thought I’d check out this latest version of the ad for you. The […]
The latest newsletter to head our way via a big and mysterious marketing pitch is called The Palm Beach Letter, signed by a guy named Mark Ford — who is apparently the same dude as Michael Masterson, who has for a long time been a big name in copywriting and self-help “work from home” marketing […]
I was going to hold off on writing about this teaser until Friday and cover it just for the Irregulars in the Friday File because it’s a tiny stock and I’ll very likely be influencing the price by writing about it for this larger group today — but I’ve gotten so many questions in just […]
Todays tempting teaser travels toward the Thinkolator thanks to the Inside Strategist, the Stansberry newsletter, edited by Braden Copeland, that focuses on stocks that show patterns of insider buying. As we’ve noted many times when looking at teasers from this and other insider-focused newsletters, there’s a good reason to track insider buying: on average, it […]
I was puttering around this morning, trying to decide what to share with my favorite folks, the Irregulars today … when I got a question from the very newest Irregular, and decided that her teasers sounded pretty interesting. This new reader (welcome, D.C.!) sent me a teaser I hadn’t seen yet, for Braden Copeland and […]
“A Market Insider and Lifelong Friend Hands Me the Best Opportunity of 2009 “‘I can’t imagine a better stock to buy.’” That’s how the newest ad launches for Porter Stansberry’s Inside Strategist, a newsletter that has churned through at least two editors in the last few years, but which is now apparently run by Porter […]
Monthly newsletter recommends undervalued, “blue chip” and “next boom” stocks.
Porter Stansberry, whose newsletters I write about from time to time, is revamping his new Porter Stansberry’s Put Strategy newsletter to focus not on his original plan — which was selling puts to buy bargains at even lower cost — but on betting on the demise of companies, and particularly (at the moment, at least) companies in commercial real estate.
And here’s the “tease” for the recent letter he sent out about this Put Strategy newsletter:
“America’s Next Major Bankruptcy (it’s not GM or CitiGroup)… Happens this FRIDAY at Midnight” —
What is this one?
This is a new teaser that has gotten the attention of many of my readers, if my bulging emailbox is any indicator. The special report, which they’re releasing to subscribers on April 2nd, is called “America’s New Currency: How a Unique ‘Legal Tender’ Helps Americans Grow Wealthy Regardless of the Economy or Dollar.” If you […]
This teaser comes in from the folks at Stansberry’s Phase 1 Investor service, which is their uber-expensive $5,000 subscription newsletter that purports to find the best opportunities in the smallest stocks. They have developed what they call the L-2 Indicator that tells them when to buy stocks, in this case gold stocks: “the ‘L-2 Indicator’ […]
“And collect up to $3,000 a month in TAX FREE income starting as early as Feb. 13, 2008.” That’s how a recent email teaser ad from Stansberry and Associates for Steve Sjuggerud’s True Wealth newsletter opens — and this kind of investment is always very appealing for folks when stocks are in crisis mode, as […]
This teaser and the solution come in from our old friend Streetsifter, who has written up a few solutions in this space in the past — t0 the great appreciation of your Gumshoe. His solution has been confirmed by a few other readers who I know do a good job sniffing out solutions, so he’s […]
The folks at Stansberry and Associates have come out with a new newsletter, perfectly designed to focus on exactly what everyone seems to want right now: Foreign Stocks. This one is called International Strategist, and they’ve got a teaser campaign designed to get you on board with a trial subscription. The teaser campaign is generally […]
This one came in as part of a teaser for a larger program, in an ad for the Alliance from Stansberry & Associates (that’s their package deal that gets you all their newsletters for one giant $5,000 upfront payment plus some kind of annual fee). The teaser was very brief, but I thought it was […]
This one comes in from Rob Fannon’s Medical Investor, another publication of Stansberry and Associates — we’ve seen a few of his teasers before, with actually some quite good results on their ideas for “SNiP Investments” and a few others. This time, as with so many Stansberry ads, there’s again an invented term to juice […]
OK, so moving on … this one took a little more time, but I think we’ve worked out the ‘The Canary Warf Estate” so it can join the first four secret socieities we’ve sniffed out from the Porter Stansberry Investment Advisory teaser. Here’s what this one owns: Part of Canary Wharf (a big London office […]
You probably won’t find this shocking, but the Gumshoe is, at heart, a lazy man. So I’m skipping 3 and 4 while I work on them a little more, since they’re gumming up my brain cells, and moving on to the other “easy” teaser from the “secret societies” ad from Stansberry and Associates. This one […]
So here we go again — I’ve already had a few readers trying to beat me to the punch and figure out the other four “secret societies” teased by the Porter Stansberry Investment Advisory, and this particular one, secret society #2, was suggested by a couple readers. Of course, they didn’t all agree on what […]
This is a follow-up to our look at the “Pasadena Secret Investment Society,” which teased us with five other holding companies that the Porter Stansberry Investment Advisory thinks are great investments. In the words of Stansberry & Associates, “If you’d like to make a small fortune in America today, we believe the only safe and […]
I’ve gotten a lot of email about Porter Stansberry’s latest ad campaign, the one that teases the existence of “secret societies” that you can participate in and significantly outperform the market. Of course, the mystique sells the newsletters … but are these “secret societies” for real? Let’s take a look. This “Pasadena Secret Society” … […]
This is a post I sent out a few months ago, around the time of the launch of the Dividend Grabber service — it used to tease a “$9000 one day payout” and now teases “Wall Street Bonus Checks,” but the main stock teased is still the same one, and I’m just adding this note […]
“Is it really possible to safely make $5,500 or more, in cash, in the next 24 hours?” That’s how they open this teaser for a new investment newsletter from Stansberry and Associates, called Jeff Clark’s Advanced Income. And just as an aside, duh, of course you can safely make $5,500 or more in 24 hours […]
This one comes in from Stansberry and Associates, as an ad for Porter Stansberry’s Investment Advisory — if you subscribe, they’ll send you the special report: “Part D Compensation”— Monthly Checks for the Next 9 Years. Now, Stansberry and his folks love to come up with new terms and phrases to describe the investment strategies […]
There’s a new teaser going around from a Stansberry newsletter, this time it’s from the 12% Letter by Tom Dyson, and it’s teasing us about a secret retirement plan they call the 801K. They’ve got a special report to send you called How to build a $1,000,000 Retirement with “U.S. 801(k) Plans” … and all […]
For those of you who haven’t been checking things out over at the Gumshoe Forum, I thought I’d call your attention to a little discussion of the latest teaser ad — from Stansberry, if memeory serves — for what is purported to be an “F-series” Government Bond that might yield 180%. I’ve participated in the […]
I guess Stansberry’s folks must just be putting together the most entertaining teaser emails, because that’s a lot of what I’ve been covering lately. And today is no exception. This teaser came in yesterday from Porter Stansberry, for the S&A Inside Strategist, which is a new service that will cost you $500 a year. What […]
This one comes to us from Dan Ferris, at Stansberry and Associates. It came to me through a reader, who also suggested a solution, so I don’t have the whole email … but the only newsletter Ferris edits is Extreme Value, which runs $1,000 a year. And yes, it’s about a plastics company … using […]
Greetings, fearless readers. No big new sleuthing project today, but I will share a couple solutions from readers that I haven’t been able to write up in full: 1) There’s a teaser going around from Matt Badiali that’s called “Fraser’s Legacy,” for S&A’s Gold Report, which discusses four ‘Prospect Generators.’ The report is called, “How […]
This one comes to us from Stansberry & Associates, as so many of them do, and is an ad for The Oil Report from Matt Badiali ($99 a year, last time I checked). He’s got a great opening, as usual: “Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil […]
This is yet another junior mining company investment, and the tease comes to us from Matt Badiali at the Stansberry & Associates (S&A) Gold Report. The suggested solution came to me from a reader who wanted to remain anonymous, and it looks to me as though he was correct. Some newsletters just do a more […]
This piece deciphered the original “A.O.P.” teaser form 2007, the ad was revised and is now running again in 2012, we looked at the new version here. This one on the so-called American Oil Pension (A.O.P) has been making the rounds quite a bit lately, with lots of different variations over the past couple weeks […]
So that’s an attention-getting claim, eh? Wait, it gets better. This one comes to us from Porter Stansberry at Phase 1 Investor, who would like us to pony up … get ready for it … $5,000 for entry into the exclusive group of investors who are going to find out — in a report released […]
This one comes to us from Peter Stansberry as part of an ad for his Phase 1 Investor service … which he’d like you to subscribe to in exchange for learning about this fabulous company in a special report. In fact, he’s promising that his biotech analyst will reveal the name of this company on […]
